Sales of flowers decline by 8 March and increase by Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Valeriy Gorban, co-owner of Ascania Group, talks about the latest trends in the unfading business.
The flower business is one of the most challenging in Ukraine. It is almost impossible to stop the growth of flowers, and the producer has only a week to find a buyer. Then the roses have to be thrown away.
This year, flower producers are doing well. Warm winter weather and improved consumer sentiment have had a positive impact on sales. In the first quarter, they grew by 10% compared to the same period last year, while prices rise by 20-30% a few days before the ‘peak dates’. How many flowers are sold in Ukraine, how many are exported and what are the volumes of smuggling – this is what Valeriy Horban, co-owner of the Askania Group of Companies, told NV Business in an interview.
